OK, WE ARE READY FOR SNOW NOW...

...Sometimes I have to remind myself
that I love our big giant red maple tree. It gives us shade all summer. It provides a barrier from the main road. The kids have a fun and exciting place to hang out up in the tree house, and the foliage is gorgeous. Birds live there (so do the bees, wasps and squirrels). Every November, however, we have to take care of those leaves. This year it only took 20 bags, but I'm convinced it is because we switched to the bigger bags and I also brought out the mower.

Here are some reminders of why I love the tree, and why it is worth all the mess...

Here is an old scrap page (back in the paper scrap days) of Jeff's creation; the dream treehouse that the kids continue to play in and love! It's a hit with every kid that enters the yard.

Me and the kiddos four years ago playing in the leaves

One year in the spring when the kids were climbing the tree right as it was growing it's new leaves

Max trying to hide from me (and the camera) a couple years ago, behind our Tree, we call him "Woody"

OK, so here's the lineup for this year. The bags will be in the yard until next spring when our city does it's spring cleanup day and comes to pick them up.

I ended up mowing the "birch" end of the yard today after several suggestions from friends to mow rather than rake. I'm not sure if it really saved me any time, but with a shortage of rakes and garbage cans it kept me busy while the other half was being done. It was an all day operation. We are now ready to roll snowman balls sans dog poop and leaves!

Woody these days...I know...he's getting old. Still content though.

The bird feeders are filled and ready for winter

I'm glad to see that the last surviving flower in the yard this year is my favorite rose! Isn't she pretty?
