Thanksgiving Weekend...
...started Wednesday afternoon with an early release day from school/work. We headed home, cleaned up the house, and baked pies. We couldn't decide on apple or pumpkin so the kids made one of each! It was way too much pie for our little family of four. Needless to say, the leftovers are going to the staff lounge tomorrow.
We also had way too much food to eat...turkey and ham, stuffing (made with sausage and Hawaiian bread), green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, fruit salad, yummmm.... The only thing missing - our families! We usually either have company or travel, so it was a little strange to be such a small group this year, and we missed everyone! We've already vowed to travel next year, no matter what.
SUN MOUNTAIN
We headed out Friday afternoon to spend the weekend at Sun Mountain Lodge. For those of you who read and keep up on our little lives, we went up to the lodge last year in December. We LOVE this place!!! What a relaxing getaway! We didn't have the snow that we had last year, so we had to hike instead of ski, but it was just as nice! Our room was lovely, the hot tub was inviting, the food was fabulous, the views stunning, and the pond was icy! The kids claim this was the best part of the weekend (walking on ice, and writing their names in the crystals)!
The hot tub was probably a close "second" favorite activity. There's just something about soaking in a 100+ degree tub in freezing cold weather, on the edge of a cliff, overlooking snowy topped mountains and pine trees! Wow! And Saturday night was crystal clear! We stargazed and reminisced!
and of course the WILDLIFE
was a favorite for all (especially me and my camera). We saw several bald eagles on the drive up, and a juvenile golden eagle that was feasting on roadkill. On our way home we saw an adult golden in the same spot and stopped to take some pictures! Of course there were all kinds of little squirrels, woodpeckers, and chickadees on our hike around the pond, and the deer were everywhere we looked (we stopped counting at 90-something).
Well, I'm exhausted after the long weekend and ready to head to bed! Have a great week everyone!
