So, I'm trying to get more exercise in the middle of the winter...
My friend Julia showed me a spot on the river Sunday evening where all the bald eagles roost for the night. It is a nice little hike in the snow. We got there right at dusk so my camera was not working at its full potential. We counted 13 bald eagles though, and it was an amazing site. I got one shot that gives you a good idea of what we were looking at.
Many were immature (meaning under 5 or 6 years before they grow their white plumage). Wow, what a site.
So...thinking we'd have success again, I drug the kiddos down after school again today. I'm not sure if we got there too early, or if the birds were feasting on a carcass somewhere, but there were not as many, and they were not in the same tree. We saw about a half a dozen fly in and out of the wooded area, and one adult and one immature roosted right above our heads for a long while. I brought my tripod this time, which helped a bit with the focus in the dark.
I'll be going back soon, I'm sure!

Wish I'd been there as well. I've been enjoying the eagles on my morning Montessori drives!
