tonight that I wanted to share before I take off with the girlscouts this weekend.
I came home from school today thinking I would pack, clean, prepare, make dinner, and then we'd hit a movie (Inkheart) tonight. We did make it to the movie, eventually, but all other duties were haulted when we had a little excitement! A neighbor was knocking on the door to inform me that we had a baby osprey, or hawk in the yard and that the dogs were picking on it (I later found out that Anya had it pinned to the ground). The mother and another sibling were circling the house and calling to it. Another passerby called 911.
The bird was in our yard for about an hour before the sherrif's department (a very informative man who must be in charge of animal resuce, and was also very generous with information about hawks and letting me take pictures) showed up to capture it and take it to who knows where. Luckily, there is a kind hearted vet in town who tends to take on such rehabilitation projects. I heard from her tonight and she did promise to check on the bird tomorrow. It has an obvious broken wing (check out the photo). Best guess...a juvie red tailed hawk?? Maybe.

What a cool experience. Not for the birdie of course. Hope he heals up.
Oh my gosh.. that is sad that his wing is broken.. but so awesome that you were able to get that close and take pictures.
