We had a great afternoon, just the three of us. Max went up to Dylan's and we took Zoe out on a little B-day adventure. Her 13th Birthday is only a coulple days away, but with Jeff's big 20 year reunion this weekend, we are celebrating early. Jeff took us out in the canoe and brought the fishing poles along. I wondered how the fishing would be in the canoe, but the little bass, crappie, and bluegill in this lake can't pull you too far or tip you over! They brought home enough fillets for an appetizer anyway, and I enjoyed some birdwatching.
The nice thing we all noticed about having the canoe...you can paddle through the weeds and not worry about getting the engine caught! Check this out...
and that is where all the birds, little brave fishies, and turtles popping their heads out of the water were. With the canoe, they don't even hear you coming. If you are quiet enough you can just glide throught the water like you are part of the environment. So cool!
A New Check in the Bird Book...
I believe we have ID'd this one as the American Coot. I've never even heard of one, but apparently they are around (and in the Sibleys). The babies are so darn cute with their little red heads. Fuzzy too (see the closeup).
and some Canadian Geese and their offspring...
Every duck out on the lake had a gaggle of little ones. Check out the ducks running on top of the water.
The little ducks were so cute running across the water away from us. I caught a little of it in a video
and one more new sighting...
The Red Necked Grebe who usually stays a little bit north of us. I've never seen one around here.
