FIRST DAY OF SUMMER (break, that is)

Lazy Dazy
We had quite a celebration with all the teacher's up at a co-worker's house last night. I took tons of pictures of all the kids, be looking for them in layouts soon. There are so many of them that are close in age and they have so much fun together. The people hosting the party this year live up the grade from us in a beautiful log home on acres and acres of orchard. They had a huge BBQ set up for grilling and lots of potluck food, and a nice fire pit and smores afterwards. I got a lot of positive praise from people about working with them at the highschool next year. Made me feel good! Needless to say, we were beat today and were pretty lazy until about after nap time (yeah, even me... I never nap!)

Jeff got a bunch of stuff done in the garage cleaning it up and getting ready for a dump run. I think he just wants to make room for the boat we are borrowing again this summer. I came outside to see what he was up to and noticed our empty water feature in the corner of the yard (a big pot with a fountain in it basically), that usually holds dozens of tad-poles by this time of year, and suggested we go get some! There's a spot along the main road in town that collects rainwater pretty good this time of year and I knew we'd have luck there because I've heard the frogs when we drive by in the evenings. The kids had so much fun catching and holding several different species of tad-poles in all stages of their lifecycle and we even caught a few salamanders and a LEECH, YUK! We let the leeches (of course) and the biggest salamanders go and brought the rest home to put into our pot. It's always fun to watch them slowly change into little froggys. Then one by one they crawl out and leave us. Probably on to one of our three neighbors' larger ponds. P.S., layout credits Tracy Ann Robinson's paint splotches, Will and Grace font

Slide Comes Home
One of the big excitements about no longer doing daycare is that our freedom is returning to us in the aspect that no one is telling us how thing have to be in and out of our home anymore. There were so many regulations you wouldn't even believe it, and new one's every year. I was up for relicensing in November (every three years) and that's the worst. The licensor comes out and does a complete walk though, makes a huge list of things you have to change and then comes back to make sure they are done. Last spring a new requirement came out that had us hauling gravel over an entire weekend. We had to build a 6 inch deep gravel pit around the swing set area. It was a lot of work and money, and now we have gravel all over the lawn all the time. Anyway, long story (I know...) short (...er), after the project was complete I was told that all equipment had to be at least 6 feet jumping distance from the border of our gravel area and the slide attached to the swingset was only about 3 feet), so down came the slide, and today, it came back. Even though our kids are really too big for it, they were more excited than I could have imagined. I took these pictures (totally unstaged, they weren't paying attention to me at all) of them playing "catch" and saying funny things like "Come on honey... you can do it... Mommy's going to catch you", and then Max wanted to catch Zoe which was even more humorous!

Last but not Least
We let the ducks out twice today to rummage around the yard and look for things to eat in hopes of preparing them for their release in three more weeks. They just love the freedom but still follow us and don't go too far. Jeff wanted to take them out to the "lake" in front of the house for a swim. I was a little hesitant because I didn't know how they'd react if cars drove by, but they were totally fine and enjoyed every second. They kept dipping their heads down into the mud, I'm not sure what they were finding, but they thought it was yummy anyway!
